Book 6: Fall from
“Yes, I apologize. I was unavoidably delayed.” Giles stepped into the room and closed the door behind him, shutting out the cool night air.
“So, what’s the sitch?” Buffy asked, sinking back into the couch. Spike slid his arm around her shoulders, and she unconsciously leaned into him.
“Yes, well, as you all know, the very fabric of the
universe is becoming unraveled,” Giles explained. “
“Heaven,
And I…” Giles trailed off, sounding uncertain for the first time, “I represent the more…earthly…contingency.”
Buffy sat up. “Tell us what, Giles?”
“After the destruction of the council and the deaths of most of the watchers world wide, there was the need for a guide: someone who could transcend time to train multiple generations of slayers and their watchers.
“We had the curse documented..."Giles hesitated and then slipped off his
glasses. His face shifted, becoming that of his demon. His amber eyes
blazed as he said defiantly, "I did what I had to do,”
Spike threw his head back and laughed. “Payback’s a bitch, ain’t it, Rupert.”
