Vol 4: The Return

Buffy looked off into the distance, watching the sunset from their position in the shadows.

“Spike, I don’t think I can do this, it’s too hard.” A single tear welled up in her eye and spilled down her cheek.

He slid his arm around her shoulder. “You knew it would be, love,”

She shook her head sadly. “No, I didn’t. I thought I did, but this is too much.  I’m not strong enough.”

Before he could reply, the heavy metal door behind them slammed open.

They both whipped around, grabbing their weapons.

“Hey guys, did I miss anything?”

“Xander?”

Xander Harris stood in the doorway, holding his hands out in front of him.

Buffy was in his arms in less than a second, crushing him to her.

“Xander,” she whispered wonderingly against his chest, as if she were afraid .

“I missed you too, Buff.” Xander’s voice was thick with emotion. “How are you?”

“Good,” she replied, excited to find that she meant it. “I think we’re going to be okay.

Spike rolled his eyes. “Oh goodie, looks like the cartoon kiddies are back together.”

Xander laughed. “Don’t think I don’t know that you’re ticked about being left out of the group hug, buddy.”
