Post “Intervention” Spike & Xander Rated G Willy’s Best Xander kept worrying about Spike
cause Glory had thrashed him so very thoroughly. He kept remembering the feel of
broken bones shifting under his arm as he helped Giles return the vampire to his
crypt. When Spike came up in conversation the next day, and Buffy used a
dismissive attitude in reply to Xander’s inquires about the vamp, he had
volunteered to check on him. Giles, too, had seen the damage
and stopped Xander on his way out. He pressed some money into Xander’s palm.
“Go to Willy’s and get him some human blood. It will help him heal.”
Xander met the Watcher’s eyes. “We… we may need him to help fight.” With a terse nod, Xander left
the rest to talk over their ever-mounting problems. Swiftly, Xander ducked into
Willy’s demon bar, made his purchase, and crossed town to Spike’s crypt. He
carefully pushed the door open and called out. “Spike? Knock, knock. Dominoes
calling.” With obvious pain, Spike sat up
on the sarcophagus. “Don’t want pizza, pet. I think something got torn in my
gut.” “Well, how about three bags of
Willy’s best?” Spike raised an eyebrow. “For
me?” he asked suspiciously. “Why?” “There was that big not
telling of secrets, and the fact that we might need you to help us fight.” Spike took a bag from Xander and fumbled with it, trying
to will his broken hands to work as the boy put the other two in the mini
fridge. “So no actual concerns about my well being?” Xander saw his struggles and
took the bag back. “You got a mug?” Spike nodded to a black coffee mug
sitting atop his TV. “Well, I was bored and needed some air,” he said
lightly as he cut a small hole in a corner with his pocketknife and filled the
mug. “I’m too banged up to
entertain you, Pet,” Spike said with a nod as he gratefully took the mug and
drained it. Xander took the empty mug back
and refilled it without asking. “I know,” he said softly, not meeting the
vampire’s eyes. Spike took the mug and drained
half of it just as quickly as the first. “You sprung for the fresh,” he
commented. Xander shrugged. “Actually,
Giles did.” Spike sputtered, almost choking.
“The Watcher?” “Yeah, he won’t admit it,
but I think he was just as shaken as I was about how very thrashed you were.” “Really? That’s
interesting.” “Plus, you know, with the huge
evil we’re up against, we need every soldier we can get.” Spike finished the mug and
wordlessly handed it back for yet another refill. “Yeah. Sound tactical
thinking. And Buffy?” “She doesn’t know I’m
here. She did sound grateful when she told us you kept our secret. Plus, hey!
You’re not dusted.” Xander filled the mug a final time from the bag and
shuffled his feet uncomfortably. “I should…” “Get back to the bright world
of pizza and hellgods. I know.” “See ya, Spike.” Xander
turned to go. “Hey, Harris!” Xander turned
and looked back. “Thanks,” he said simply, meeting the boy’s brown eyes. Xander smiled, nodded, and went back to the rest of his friends. |
